Everyone gets writer’s block. Do you?
Writer’s block is the inability to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing.
Great writing is imperative to your SEO and web rankings. It is important that you discover what conditions allow you to write creatively, flowingly and coherently.
Writer’s block is unpredictable and unexplainable. It happens to both new and experienced writers
Here are some of my “best practices” and keys to avoiding writer’s block. I’ve written thousands of articles over the years and have a few suggestions how to avoid this paralysis to your creativity. I hope these tips will help make you aware of what allows you to write well, freely and unencumbered.
This post runs in parallel to my marketing podcast with Russell Faust on “Russ and Randy.”
Consistent Writing Thru a Routine
Many great writer’s recommend a change of venue, scenery or surroundings when faced with writer’s block.
I found quite the opposite works for me. For the most part, I like routine, of course, your results may vary. This routine does not always work, but it seems to have decreased the frequency of writer’s block.
Here’s what makes me write reliably, easily and decreases “writer’s block”;
- best hours of writing between 6 AM and noon
- write only on my desktop
- write only in my office
- no distractions
I learned after a year or so, that you can not fix writer’s block easily. It’s kind of like a mood, you just can’t change moods with a snap of your fingers. Once I figured out what makes me write easiest, I have become less frustrated when I can not write easily or not at all.
Perhaps I have become a better and creative writer, or my “routine” really works. I’ll never know.
Frustration – Getting Nothing Done
I’ve also realized that if I am not writing well, I should engage in a completely different activity – one unrelated to writing. This avoids the frustration when not being productive with your writing.
We all have overloaded crazy busy lives. It’s too easy to become frustrated when you are not productive. By switching activities, I am likely to still feel productive.
My routine has allowed me to effectively write more often. The result is that I am able to write better and more often – the perfect recipe to achieving great SEO and web rankings.
